Summary | In science K. Baer is primarily regarded as an embryologist. Mostly he lived in Russia, where he made research in geography. As a Russian academician he made some bright discoveries and founded many areas in geographical studies, also he was a leader of Several expeditions to Novaya Zemlya, to Volgo-Kaspian region and others. With other scientists he founded the Russian Geographical Association. A. Gumboldt met Baer in 1928 and later he used the results of Baer expeditions in his works. In 1864 Baer retied and moved to Derpt. There he studied historical geography. Baer demonstrated that Homer had described the Black Sea in his poems but not the Mediterranean Sea as thought before. | ||
