Title System of concepts in statistical discourse of psychology: psychosemantic experiment

Summary This paper describes the mathematical analysis of psychological data. The article presents the system of concepts in statistical discourse of psychology. The author relies on the discourse analysis. Based on a review 6th edition �Publication manual of The American Psychological Association� and discussions about mathematical methods, the author detect key concepts in the statistical discourse of psychology. Also, it corresponds to the history of mathematical methods and methodology of psychology. A validity of theoretical model is tested by experts. Further, the author tests this theoretical model in psychosemantic experiment. Special attention is paid to the problem of relationship between the formation of the system of concepts in statistical discourse of psychology and the level of mathematical and statistical skills. The subjects of the research were students from psychological faculty of St. Petersburg State University. Different empirical models were calculated for samples with different levels of mathematical and statistical skills. Cluster analysis (Ward�s method) and multidimensional scaling were used for the calculations. Empirical models were compared together and with theoretical model. In general, it was concluded that theoretical model of the system of concepts in statistical discourse of psychology was verifi ed. Students with better math skills are more successful in learning the hierarchy and functions of concepts. It is important for teaching mathematical methods to focus on the functions of key concepts in the statistical discourse of psychology.
