Summary The present article investigates an issue of major trends in modern science and higher education. New trends are the result of changing socio-economic, political and cultural conditions, forming the context in which the modern society functions and evolves. In the 21st century this context is built by increasingly intensifying globalizational processes, a postindustrial society and considerable dissemination of neoliberal ideas and practices. New trends in science and education, in their turn, generate reforms in higher education institutions and lead to changes in university staff policy. The problem of structural changes in higher education institutions is also briefl y covered in this article.
Keywords trends in science and higher education, neoliberal ideas, globalizational processes, postindustrial society, structural changes in higher education institutions.
