| Summary | The article is dedicated to the monumental decorative sculpture of Saint Petersburg`s early 20th century buildings. The majority of the statues are made from Portland cement, which was a new material at the time. The sculptors L. A. Ditrich, V. V. Kozlov, V. V. Kuznetzov, V. V. Lishev, V. A. Nikitin, R. Ch. Rachin, J. A. Troupiansky, who worked upon the projects of neoclassical architects, created monumental works of great artistic value. More than a hundred years later many of the sculptures need restoration. Within the research of the features of cement decorative plasticity the author stated his approach to its restoration: a detailed analysis of the sculptor�s manner in each architectural work and a research of the material with application of modern chemical and technological examinations, which is necessary for the correct restoration and will provide the safety of works of the cement plastic art of the buildings of St. Petersburg. |
